Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Photo & Film Archive and Research Centre is a dream project of the Government of Assam which was anounced in 2012. This project is a first of its kind in the entire North Eastern Region and commemorates the legendary icon Dr. Bhupen Hazarika.
The Department of IPR envisioned to set up an Archive with the vision to collect and preserve the historical, socio-political and developmental process of Assam and other Northeastern States. This archive will be built on the foundation of fast and modern photo/film techniques. A plot of land with an area of 15 bighas has been allocated for this institution in the village of Kali Pahar of Sila Sanduri Ghopa, Amingaon. Although, the work for this institution is at halt at present.
Highlights of the project:
A total of 10131 rare negatives & photographs have already been digitized for the Archive.
Three GB meetings already held in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
Government has approved the cabinet memorandum of the institute vide notification number IPRD.75/ 2013/ pt/ 133 dated 29th February, 2016.
